[fɛr'nandes rrɛta'mar], Roberto, kubanischer Schriftsteller, * Havanna 9. 6. 1930; 1965-88 Leiter der einflussreichen Kulturzeitschrift »Casa de las Américas«, seitdem Direktor des gleichnamigen Instituts. In seiner direkten, metaphernlosen Poesie verbinden sich intimes Gefühl und politisches Engagement, in seinen literaturwissenschaftlichen und kulturkritischen Essays sucht er eine Ästhetik aus der Erfahrung des revolutionären Prozesses zu begründen.
 
Werke: Lyrik: Elegía como un himno (1950); Vuelta de la antigua esperanza (1959); A quien pueda interesar (1970); Circunstancia de poesía (1974); Aquí (1994).
 
Essays: Ensayo de otro mundo (1967); Calibán. Apuntes sobre la cultura en nuestra América (1971; deutsch Kaliban - Kannibale. Essays zur Kultur Lateinamerikas); Cuba hasta Fidel y para leer al Che (1979).
